Orange and black on white olla. Black rim, double line at bottom of decorated portion with orange base. Designs hatchured pinwheels, clouds, feathers, triangles, and parallelograms. Highly decorated. Concave base. No signature. Good [condition] -- several abrasions and small hole on top shoulder. -- From the Museum catalog.

Reformer, theologian. While a faculty member at Lane Theological Seminary, he supported the student "rebels" involved with the abolitionist revolt and was subsequently dismissed on October 4, 1834. This revolt was led by Theodore Dwight Weld. Morgan went on to teach at Oberlin College, where many former students from Lane followed him. From the description of Letter : New York, 1834 Oct. 30.
